Everything parents (and providers) ask us most about finding licensed child care in Texas.
Is TopDaycareNearMe free for parents?
Yes — completely free. You can search, compare, and contact any daycare on the site at no cost. We make money from providers who choose to feature or claim their listing, never from parents.
Are the daycares on this site actually licensed?
Yes. Every listing is built from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) record of licensed and registered child-care operations, which is why each one carries a State-Licensed badge. We still recommend you verify a provider’s current status and inspection history yourself before enrolling — see the next question.
How do I check a daycare’s license and inspection history?
Use the official HHSC Child Care Search. Look up the operation by name or city to confirm the license or registration is active and to read recent inspection results and any violations. It takes about five minutes and is the single best safety step you can take.
What’s the difference between a center, a licensed home, and a registered home?
A Licensed Child-Care Center is a facility with age-separated classrooms and the most frequent inspections. A Licensed Child-Care Home offers care in the provider’s home under center-style standards. A Registered Child-Care Home is also home-based but with lighter (still real) oversight. We explain how to choose between them in our blog.
What areas of Texas do you cover?
Right now we cover the major Texas metros — Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin — and their surrounding suburbs, with thousands of licensed daycares across 89 cities. We’re expanding to more of Texas over time.
How often is the information updated?
Listings are based on the state’s licensing records and refreshed periodically. Hours, openings, and tuition can change, so always confirm the current details directly with the provider before you enroll.
How do I contact a daycare?
Open any listing to see the provider’s phone, address, hours, and website (where available), then reach out to them directly to ask about availability and schedule a tour.
I own or run a daycare — how do I claim or add my listing?
If your licensed daycare isn’t listed, or you’d like to claim and enhance your existing listing with photos, hours, and openings, head to our List your daycare page. Claiming is the best way to keep your information accurate and reach local families.
Do you guarantee the quality or safety of these daycares?
No. We provide licensing information and provider details to help you research, but we are an independent directory, not a licensing or accrediting body. Always verify licensing, tour in person, and use your own judgment before choosing care.
